In the 40 years since the introduction of its first 1,000 meter water resistant dive watch in 1982, TAG Heuer’s family of dive watches has built a reputation among enthusiasts for its instantly recognizable blend of distinctive modern styling and solid capability. In 2022, however, the brand has taken the Aquaracer diver series to new horizons, with a truly world-class hardcore professional diver design featuring immense depth resistance, durable materials, and a certified chronometer powerplant from movement specialist Kenissi. Even more impressively, this new Aquaracer expression accomplishes all of this without sacrificing the series’ signature avant-garde design and wearability. The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver stands as the pinnacle of the Aquaracer line’s capability and performance while shining a beacon on a stylish new future for TAG Heuer’s dive watch offerings.

At 45mm-wide and 15.7mm-thick, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver’s case certainly cuts a bold figure on the wrist, but its rugged, lightweight Grade 5 titanium case material helps to keep the design light and impressively wearable. Titanium can be a difficult material to work with where finishing is concerned, but TAG Heuer not only maintains the standard set by the stainless steel Aquaracer line here, but the brand also adds an array of striking new improvements, as well. The angular, wedge-like brushed lugs and flared faceted case sides are complemented by a flowing, brilliantly polished chamfer, while the Aquaracer series’ eye-catching 12-sided unidirectional dive bezel is topped by a two-tone ceramic insert in brushed charcoal gray and blazing signal orange. The real star of the show, however, is the newly redesigned crown guard at 3 o’clock. The Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver adds a new trapezoidal outer loop to further protect the crown, offering even more security than the standard wedge-shaped guards to either side. TAG Heuer smartly highlights this area further with its use of color. The crown itself is coated in black DLC, with a signal orange inner accent ring. This orange ring fully disappears on the wrist when the crown is properly screwed down, but when the crown is unscrewed (and therefore vulnerable to water ingress) this ring is an immediate visual warning to the wearer. Visually counterbalancing the crown at 9 o’clock is the watch’s integrated helium release valve, also highlighted in black DLC. The unique rectangular form and engraved “He” branding help to keep this functional element in line with the Aquaracer’s angular, ultra-modern design ethos, but also work to make this a genuinely professional-grade dive watch suitable for the demanding world of saturation diving. In fact, the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is one of only a handful of contemporary dive watches to qualify for 6425:2018 certification, an even more rigorous set of rules on top of the international ISO 6425 standard for dive watches. TAG Heuer rates the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver for an immense 1,000 meters of water resistance, managing this feat with one of the lightest and most compact cases currently available in a 1,000-meter dive watch.

Although the dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is purposeful and ultra-legible, the brand maintains the dramatic stylistic flourishes that define the Aquaracer look. The deep glossy black dial offers a unique, broader interpretation of the Aquaracer’s striking engraved “deck plank” dial texture for a more muscular, aggressive feel. Likewise, the standard Aquaracer’s strong, sharply faceted octagonal applied indices return here, but these familiar elements are flanked by a new sword and arrow handset that highlights vital timekeeping information in vibrant orange. Not only do these orange accents add a punchier look to the overall design, they dramatically improve legibility at a glance, as does the generous fill of luminous material across the hands and indices.

Inside the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver beats the bespoke TH30-00 automatic movement. Manufactured by movement expert Kenissi specifically to meet the rigorous requirements of the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver, the TH30-00 is a rugged and fully modern powerplant with exemplary performance. The TH30-00 receives the COSC chronometer certification for accuracy and also offers a hefty 72-hour power reserve at a smooth 28,800 bph frequency. In addition, a custom-designed soft iron cage surrounding the TH30-00 provides the movement with excellent anti-magnetic performance in accordance with the 6425:2018 standard.

TAG Heuer fits the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver with a three-link bracelet in brushed Grade 5 titanium. This bracelet follows the Aquaracer line’s unique sharply faceted, angular take on the classic three-link design, but adds a ratcheting dive extension to the folding clasp for easy adjustment on the fly. Overall, it’s a classic dive watch pairing and one that maintains the ruggedly avant-garde ethos of the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver.
