When Girard-Perregaux announced its partnership in 2021 with legendary British luxury sports car maker Aston Martin, it seemed like an obvious and natural pairing. Two iconic marques with rich heritages, both of which consistently deliver at the apex of design and engineering. Only two years on and the venture has already produced four timepieces spanning several GP collections, with all but the original brilliantly incorporating the automaker’s recognizable Aston Martin Green. While the past three releases have built off the historic Laureato models, the newest offering from the two brands returns to the roots of the first model they produced, the Girard-Perregaux Bridges collection. The new Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition delivers a breathtaking modern watch, inspired by the sculptural Aston Martin DB12, and steeped in history, craftsmanship, and the combined engineering expertise of two luxury brands.

While the Laureato, Laureato Chronograph, and Laureato Absolute Chronograph models made in partnership with Aston Martin have been beautiful, modern timepieces, the new Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition manages to strike a balance between Girard-Perregaux’s past and its forward-looking present, while still effortlessly blending the spirit of Aston Martin’s DB12. As the name suggests, the watch puts a contemporary spin on Constant Girard’s 1897 design that utilized three parallel bridges and infused the architectural dial with striking accents of Aston Martin Green, while the sleek silhouette of the cases evokes the aerodynamic curves of the DB12.

As natural as the partnership between these two vaunted brands is, the 45mm case offers surprising wearability. The gently rounded form of black titanium DLC measures just 12.18mm, enough to allow the dial and movement to be shown in their stunning depth, but not so much as to render the watch an encumbrance. It is truly an exercise in balance and beauty, two traits with which both Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux are intimately familiar. A brushed surface predominates the case itself, paired with an impressive box sapphire crystal, together creating an alluringly modern shape in the hand and on the wrist. The tapering, sloped lugs result in a curvature that will surely rest easily on any wrist, and the watch is paired with a black rubber strap that is textured to resemble fabric and stitched with matching green thread that perfectly complements the watch itself. Completing the watch, the strap is closed with a titanium DLC triple-folding clasp that offers ease of use and peace of mind with its secure and streamlined closure. Like the Aston Martin DB12, the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition evinces a stunningly luxurious carriage that in its simplicity belies the superlative engineering that lies within.

Capturing both the incredible spirit of Girard-Perregaux’s history and the magic of Aston Martin, the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition dial is truly a sight to behold. Conferring a harmonious symmetry through intentional design, the Neo Bridges dial features two spanning bridges, tinted with Aston Marting Green, serving as stabilizing elements in the mechanism and visual enticements luring the wearer and admirer alike. Traversing the dial at the cannon pinion and the balance, the bridges leave ample space for the microrotor and mainspring barrel at 10 and 2, respectively, both maintained in their place by angular skeletonized bridges. In fact, this execution of the Neo Bridges brings further skeletonization for an even more avant-garde expression of horological wonder. The time is ably displayed by the skeletonized handset that has been seen through the Aston Martin editions, paired with a flange that hovers above the dial, with green minute hashes and applied hour markers. To ensure that the time can be easily read whether driving setting records on the track or driving the coast at night, the hands and indices all feature luminescent fill that glows a radiant green.

While much of the intricacies of the in-house caliber GP084000-2164 are seen on the dial side, the back of the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition is a spectacle in its own right. On the sapphire caseback crystal, the Aston Martin logo has been applied, symbolizing speed, freedom, dreams, and exploration. While centered, it manages to allow the movement to showcase itself perfectly. The GP084000-2164 is the latest iteration of the GP084000 movement, composed of 208 meticulously crafted parts. It offers automatic winding via a microrotor (with a bridge on the back that echoes the shape of the dramatic dial-side bridges) and a 48-hour power reserve at 28,800 vph. The main plate visible through the caseback shows off the Swiss manufacture’s finishing: beveled edges, pronounced Côtes de Genève, and snailing all lend sophistication to this deceptively simple view. The caseback itself is kept simple, with brand and model information as well as “One of 250” as a reminder of the exclusivity of the timepiece.
