We review one of the most eagerly anticipated and popular Panerai watches in recent times, the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days. Resembling the vintage ref 6512, but featuring a brand new in-house movement, we attempt to find out why this watch is so highly sought after.

Panerai is an often polarizing brand that has, in recent years, has seen a massive spike in popularity and has become a somewhat household name in men’s luxury wrist watches. Now often included in the brands that your non-watchnerd friends are aware of, they hold rank in upscale jewellery boutiques alongside Breitling and Rolex. Personally, I have loved the Panerai Radiomir as long as I have loved watches but both the price and the case size has often been too much for my reality. While SIHH saw quite a few new models from Panerai, none were as intriguing to me as the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio (PAM00526).
There are reasons why people love and wear their watches. Maybe their watch has some emotional connection to an event in your past, maybe it was a gift, and if you are like us (watch nerds) you simply love having a useful mechanical toy on your wrist that also has style. While I usually readily understand my fellow watch enthusiasts, I will be the first to admit that initially…
Probably good that Panerai doesn’t sell an “FU” watch in the western world as we are probably going to take it as a signal of their amusement that we are putting up with their prices. No, Panerai doesn’t even care too much about the English speaking world for the time being. Richemont, and other luxury […]
Comparing the watch releases of SIHH 2010 and Baselworld 2010, I would have to say that for the most part I was more impressed with the releases at SIHH, and it was a significantly smaller show. Why that is I am not sure, but here is another one of the good things that I spotted. […]
In the world of limited edition Panerai watches there are cool ones and boring ones. This is one of the really cool ones. I also love that they all (limited to 100 pieces) sold out within one hour of being released. This is the Panerai Luminor Submersible PAM 358, and was specially made for the […]
Easily my favorite new Panerai of SIHH 2010 is an unexpected model. The brand that made it a point to “hide” the tourbillon complication on their first tourbillon watch has now made an about face. This is the first skeletonized Panerai watch that I know of, and does not let down. It is actually the […]
Panerai’s new P9000 automatic movement line was the star for the watchmaker at SIHH this year. The entry level in-house made movement is meant to be a friendly rugged machine with function and reliability in mind. This is particularly seen in the watches that the new movement line showed up in. My favorite of which […]
Panerai is pretty regular about their watch release schedule. We tend to get a few new ones each year. With the pre Basel announcements coming up, I expect to see a lot from Panerai this year. One new announcement is the Luminor Chrono Daylight Titanium, which is the ref. PAM 327. This Panerai is distinctly […]
If you have a good sense of humor, like to laugh at Hollywood, and want to see some actually very impressive special effects (not to mention makeup) go see the movie Tropic Thunder. While it contains some controversial joking around (people will find issue with almost anything these days), it has a great cast, and […]
I am pretty happy that the new Rambo movie was as watch-centric as it was. Through the intensely blood-bathed action fest are numerous shots of watches on the characters’ wrists. Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo adorns an interesting Panerai watch. It has been a Hollywood tradition for sometime that popular movie characters have a watch fitting […]
