Angular Momentum is, well gaining momentum in the creation of image series watches. Meaning collections that focus on dial imagery and come in collection sets. The eglomise method they use to paint small images on the rear of sapphire crystals looks so good, and works so well that the possibilities are really limitless.
The Orbis Signifier Collection is finally a tasteful array of zodiac themed watches that actually look really nice. Its not just some cheap watch with a Gemini or Taurus picture on the dial. These are something special. Not for everyone to wear maybe, but anyone can appreciate them.
The watches all start with a automatic mechanical movement inside of a 42mm black colored case. Being in the Verre Èglomisé collection, the zodiac symbol is applied on the rear of the sapphire crystal with palladium. Then diamonds are applied to represent the precise position of the stars that make up the relative constellations. Lastly, the empty spaces on the rear of the crystal are filled in with black enamel. The resulting image on the front of the sapphire crystal is beautiful with a shimmering diamond constellation and a gooey black ether that reminds you of space. The image of the constellation is rich and silvery as applied with the palladium. Lastly, you have the crescent moon cutaway where you can the disc of time.
The moon cutaway is one of the best aspects of the Orbis Signifier collection. They are a prefect way to tell the time and stick with the theme of the watch. Using the middle of the moon, you line up the disc and read the time. Perhaps not ‘to the minute’ precision, but pretty good. I really love the execution of the idea, and depending on the orientation and zodiac image on the watch, the moon is placed in a different position. Without attempting to state the obvious, the twelve watches in the Orbis Signifier Collection are: Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, and Pisces. Each watch is unique and the entire collection together is really lovely. Expect prices to be reasonable at a few thousand dollars. Another nice offering from Angular Momentum that is worth taking a look at.
