Avi-8 is proud to present their latest watch, the Hawker Harrier Grande Date Chronograph “Matador” edition. This collection is inspired by planes that the Spanish Navy flew in the second half of the 20th century. The watch line is characterized by a mechanically exciting dial designed to resemble the assemblage of wheels and gears from the airplane. Following up other value-driven aviation-themed collections like the Hawker Harrier II AV-4056, the Matador line aims to deliver a lot of watch in the ~$300 price range.
The AV-4065 is housed in a steel case that is 44mm-wide and 15mm-thick. The design choices, such as the piston-like pushers, chamfered-edge bezel, and crown guard are all intended with the Matador plane in mind.
The dial is seen through a highly legible anti-reflective coated convex crystal, and the eye is first drawn to the “Grande Date” double-aperture date display at 12 o’clock. The large, legible display is made of two frames that are beveled and sit at the forefront of the multi-layered dial. At 3 and 9 o’clock are the 30-second and 60-minute chronograph sub-dials, respectively. At 6 o’clock, you can see the small seconds sub-dial, as well.
The watch runs on a reliable, re-engineered Miyota 6S50 movement that is capable of 1/20 of a second split-time measurement via the previously mentioned 30-second subdial at 3 o’clock. The choice to use this quartz Miyota movement provides great value for buyers who want the design and style that Avi-8 has become known for in the ~$300 range.
The Hawker Harrier Grande Date Chronograph “Matador” edition has an engraved steel caseback that is designed to evoke the look of the turbine blades of the Rolls Royce Pegasus engine used in the Harrier plane.
The AVI-8 AV-4065 Hawker Harrier Grande Date Chronograph “Matador” edition comes in three varieties: steel (priced at £260); two-tone (priced at £275); and black ionic-plated (priced at £275). You can learn more and browse the collection at avi-8.co.uk
