Rebel AquaFin Watch Watch Releases Sponsored Post written for aBlogtoWatch by advertiser.

Meet the Rebel AquaFin - ounce for ounce, millimeter for millimeter, the best looking and best performing dive watch available on the market for under $500. We know those are fighting words, but keep reading and we hope we can get you to agree. If you’re familiar with our brand, you’ll know it’s been close to a year since we successfully wrapped up the Kickstarter Campaign for our first offering, the Rebel Aviator. We tripled our crowdfunding goal and shipped out 200 beautiful watches to excited customers worldwide. A year is a long time, and we’ve spent all of it working on our next foray into the watch world.

After seizing air superiority, we’ve come for the Seven Seas. Starting from the ground up with hand drawn sketches and input from professional divers, we were guided by classic design principles and an unwavering commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Coming in at 42mm in diameter and crafted from of 316L stainless steel, this Swiss-made watch is as comfortable behind a desk as it is 300m under water (you know, for those deep-sea lunch expeditions).

In between dives and client meetings, you may find yourself checking out the workhorse Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, ticking away behind an anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal. Available in 3 exciting versions, we have chosen yellow, red, and white, for colors that bring a perfect amount of character to a watch that’s all business. The AquaFin will come with a high-grade rubber strap, as well as a comfortable stainless steel bracelet. We also have a gorgeous Cordura canvas strap lurking in the background if we hit our stretch goal.

This is the kind of timepiece that will make other watches straighten their ties - it's a watch's watch. Its presence is felt, but is not overbearing. It lifts up those around it, and encourages them to be the best they can be. It is more than just a timepiece, it's a tool.

You may find yourself staring into the mesmerizing waves etched onto the AquaFin's face. The Super-LumiNova on the hands and indices will pull you in and invite you to give the internal rotating bezel a turn. Total strangers may begin to approach you to ask the time, just to get a closer look at your wrist. But fear not, with this great responsibility comes the confidence to bear this "Jason Bourne" of watches.

Rebel Time Company was established by Shneur Lakin in 2015, after he grew frustrated by the industry's skyrocketing prices, but diminishing returns. No stranger to the world of horology, the bug was passed down to him from his grea grandfather and master watchmaker Issador Lakein, a man whose commitment to character, integrity, and honesty can be felt in every aspect of Rebel Time’s watches. We stand by our product 100% and offer a 3 year international warranty as well as a 45 day return policy.

Congratulations on your past success with the Rebel Aviator and for your commitment and dedication to your craft. Bringing a watch to market is no mean feat.
In this instance i’m afraid it’s seen one seen them all and i am totally dive watched out.. Yes, it’s well priced, yes it’s a nice size, yes, i love the lume, but originality, well that is sadly lacking and your logo is a little to big.
    Best wishes.

    Handsome piece, great value!!!

That made be smile, anyway, and smiling is good. Even though it was nonsense.

    • Reuven Lakein

      Smiling is very important.

  • TrevorXM

You know, it’s a good value in a Chinese sweatshop kind of way, and it’s a nice enough looking in a Hublot knock-off kind way. But. man, when are these sponsored post advertisers going to spare us all the bullshit? People on here are just going to make fun of them. This ad is just so over the top and silly. It’s a $500 Kickstarter watch. Give us all a break on the “character, integrity, and honesty” of the guy’s grea(t) grandfather! The “Jason Bourne of watches” ??? And on and on… is this really written as a joke, or are these guys serious?

    • Reuven Lakein

Its there to make one smile and read on. We dont take ourselves that serious, and yes, our great great grandfather was a watchmaker in Ukraine, and our great grandfather opened a jewelry store in Baltimore when they immigrated in 1913, in the 50s they opened a second one that is still open. The original closed when our grandmother passed in 06.

      • drThrillman

Hey I live in Baltimore, what’s the shop?

        • Reuven Lakein

Lakein’s Jewelers of Hamilton is the one still open run by my cousin Marcia. My grandmas was at 515 South Broadway.

    • tattoochef

Its a sponsored post. It is advertising, plain and simple. I am not sure why so many keep reading them just to complain they hate the sponsored posts and the way they are written.
Being honest, I did not read any of the article, just looked at the pics. I have seen the watch on the facebook groups though, so had already seen the pics. I know what kind of marketing speak is going to be in these sponsored posts, so I just move on.

  • Ulysses31

Sponsored post? Kickstarter? I basically skip the article and ask myself whether or not I like the look of the watch and what price it is. As it happens, this is a very handsome watch – chunky with a distinctive case design that is a bit more organic than what is usual in the dive-watch segment. It’s also pretty cheap for what it is. So yeah, it’s a win-win. Would have liked an option for different dial colours though. That all-black model with a blue sunburst dial would look sweet.

    • Reuven Lakein

Thank you for feedback! We have three dials available right now. We have three more that we will offer if we hit a certain qty, there are some sunburst options there.

  • Ross Diljohn

The thing about kick starters and even buying watches online is that I need to look at, feel and wear a watch a few times before I can ever know if I really like it or not.

    • Reuven Lakein

If your in Brooklyn you can come by for a try on.

  • Lenny Kravitz

Please get in touch with us at Kravitz Design. We can help to improve this.

    • Reuven Lakein

      Sounds fantastic.

  • IG

It doesn’t look like a Submariner or a Panerai and that’s a good start.

  • DanW94

I like the overall design but the screw down crowns look disproportionately large relative to the rest of the watch. Makes it look a bit “side heavy”. Otherwise a nice effort. And plus one for the opening paragraph declaring your superiority over all other Kickstarter brands and basically telling them we’ll kick your ass if you don’t like it 🙂

    • Reuven Lakein

They dont seem so big in person, but its a diver, so it gives it the a bit of the chunky feel it needs 🙂

  • Travis Cannata

These look great guys. And certainly competitively priced for what you get. Do all the watches come with a bracelet option?

    • Reuven Lakein

They come are standard with with rubber, will add a free cordura at 75k, and we offer the fully stainless steel bracelet for an extra $49.

  • kawts

Reasonably sized. What is the length of the watch from lug to lug?

    • Reuven Lakein

      46.5 mm

  • Moonraker

316L stainless steel, eh? Now how ’bout some straight-on photos, please.

    • Reuven Lakein

Trying to add but its not going.

  • Beefalope

The watches themselves don’t look bad — especially with the black/white color scheme — and the prices aren’t bad, but I’ll be darned if this isn’t some of the worst marketing writing I’ve ever come across in ABTW. The writing is full of unearned arrogance and bluster, and it turns me off entirely to the brand.

Humility and restraint are good things.

    • SuperStrapper

Youre right, they should have disciss a forced inspiration that doesnt actually make sense.

Corny by leagues to be sure, still preferable to any bremont article I’ve ever read.

  • Marius

“Total strangers may begin to approach you to ask the time, just to get a closer look at your wrist.”

Are you sure you’re selling watches? Judging by this presentation, it seems that you’re also purveyors of fine hallucinogenic substances, and it also seems that you’re consuming, rather than selling your stock.

    • Reuven Lakein

Never get high on your own supply. That said, we do wear our watches.

      • Pete Pete

you actually have to wear those cheapos? business is slow, ey?

        • Reuven Lakein

My lawyer said it would look bad if I was seen walking around with with my favorite timex.

  • thedonn007

Last name is spelled as Lakin instead of Lakein in the advertisement

  • Sheez Gagoo

I really would like to see this watch, but the pictures are darker than the inside of the ass of a black toro in a moonless prairie night. So I have to buy a turtle.

    • Reuven Lakein

We have some flashlights to lend. https://www.instagram.com/vmarksi/ has a wrist shot here. We have more over at our facebook as well

      • SuperStrapper

I have to say, looking at that IG wristahot the lower crown does not looks good. Like chromed plastic. The decision for a polished crown was wrong I think for a few reasons, not the least of which is aesthetics. Should be a simple fix to have them blasted, satinised, or brushed.

        • Reuven Lakein

I agree with you. I believe they will be brushed. We also changed the indents a bit to make it easier to turn.

    • Berndt Norten

Whah would you do, Sheez Peru
      With a subway token
And a dollar tucked inside your shoe?

      • Sheez Gagoo

Put the dollar in my wallet. It will get filthy inside my shoe.

  • BNABOD

Have i been waiting for this one or what….after the aqua star comes the aqua fin followed by the aqua marine and of course the aqua lung …kidding aside I like the attitude with no bs story of an adventure where the owner was rescued by a fisherman and his octopi friend. So go for it sell that bad boy

    • Reuven Lakein

We give you here a two in one. We started this out as the AquaLung but got a cease and desist letter from the Aqua Lung scuba company so we went to the AquaFin. We have the Aqua Star lined up for our space ship inspired diver.

  • Moonraker

Like 1-800-Mattres, we leave off the last ‘a’ for attorneys’ fees. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cf99e39209d7a3752337bed10cd1ccbe277525a2faaf318fc8da19aac27505f8.jpg

  • Mark1884

Normally I would go straight to the “kick to the nuts” comment, for a Kickstarter begging for money type of watch.
I found your cocky arrogant style of writing humorous and entertaining.
As for your watch….. not exactly my style. The price seems to be reasonable though. You do need some better pic’s. Too dark and not enough detail.
    Good luck.

  • Berndt Norten

Rebel rebel, the face is a mess

    • Reuven Lakein

We are making the logo smaller on the production run. Put the order in for a sample of the new dial, but its taking a while.

      • Berndt Norten

        I was joking!

        • Reuven Lakein

Its ok. We are still making it smaller.

  • Jose Miguel

SO Mr. Reuven Lakein, regarding the date… will it be black on white or white on black??

Your photos show the same yellow accented watch (the one with rubber strap, and again all together shot) with both options. IF you plan to leave the date white on black, that’ll become a very distinctive feature of the watch that will complement the whole appearance… otherwise, it will be just another off the shell put-it-all-together kickstarted watch.

Do consider adding a sticker or something else of your logo in the glass of the case back (won’t do harm…) just to see “something” distinctive when turning the watch over.

    • Reuven Lakein

Black on white is the plan. We actually etched our logo put on some glass to see what it would look like and decided it was a bit too much. So we are just putting our logo on https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d77342a8c6e2bbac75c7f1160d40e5bc7735c8d4db422847aee1707b341937f8.jpg the movement.

      • Jose Miguel

BoW not my cup of tea, but it’s your design…. although I agree with you, loose the text, keep the logo.

      • Moonraker

Hey Reuven, just thought I’d give you my opinion on this matter. Do with it what you will. Normally I would say that if you’re going to have a black dial to also have the background of the date wheel be black (with the numbers in white) so that it blends into the dial. But I think if you’re going to have the date at 4 o’clock, it would be better to have the background of the date wheel be white (with black date numbers) so that it mimics an hour marker. And it would be even more ideal if you could make the date window circular and in the same size as the other hour markers. Although I don’t know if that is possible. Depending on what date wheel you’re using you might have to make all the circular hour markers bigger to match each other and it could throw off the proportions in relation to the case, but it was just a thought.

  • Esteban

No lume pip at 12? On a diver?

  • Lawrence

    mmmm. Bracelet is too big

    • Reuven Lakein

      Long/wide/deep?

  • Joe

I’ve been stung on Kickstarter already on the Deviate Watch, no more kickstarter project for me..

    • Reuven Lakein

We delivered our last ones more less on time, and we think we have gotten better over time.

  • Yan Fin

I would prefer having 3-4 normal pictures and 10 lines of specs including all the sizes instead of reading this stream of consciousness with mistakes and misspellings of the last name of creators. And no, you can’t use my name as a part of Aqua Fin. Call it Aqua Fon.

    • Pete Pete

or mix it up with some art and call it aqua fart

    • Reuven Lakein

How about if we make the N silent?

      • Yan Fin

Not good enough. But I like whatever you’re drinking.

        • Reuven Lakein

Imagine buying for yourself and your family a watch that carries the family name. Contact me if you want a group discount 🙂

          • Yan Fin

First replace the transparent caseback with solid one. We usually cover our …. backs

          • proudAmerican702

+1. If the movement isn’t embellished, then just cover it.

  • Yan Fin

    Actually, like the watch

  • Pat Mercer

Overall, probably the coolest unique design kickstarter watch I have seen so far. Would buy in an instant if it weren’t for those bezel screws. Bezel should be part of the case.

    • Reuven Lakein

It would actually look good without the screws. Maybe for version 2.0.

      • Pat Mercer

That would be awesome! Thanks for listening and best wishes to you and RTC!

      • Slymenstra Hymen

        yes! lose the effing screws

  • Gosh, I’ve seen bunker walls thinner than how this sales pitch was laid so I thought the watch in case presented the Prospex to be a Monster. Instead it is a bit of a hit and miss : good proportions, ugly screws on the bezel, good looking dial and lume, fiddly dive setting (for a tool that is). And then why a display back? What’s so nice or groundbreaking about that movement that warrants showing? It only adds thickness (if you want to preserve that 300m rating) and detracts from the touted “toolines” of the watch. Yes I’m aware of the Planet Oceans and all that jazz. Without that back the watch could be thinner and less expensive. You would than have an even better value proposition while detracting nothing from your target audience, save for the odd philistine backer looking for frills. Sinn created a strong following using simple, well designed tool watches. Why not do the same?

And beware of the Bourne Franchise. I’ve heard their lawyers make their main character pale in comparison.

    • Reuven Lakein

Good point re Sinn, however we really do not want to be just another good looking great quality watch at a good price. When we sat with our designer we said we want something different, so after a few drafts this is what we went with.

We have been hounded by lawyers enough this week already. AquaLung made us change the name already.

The case is relatively thin at 13mm, so it did not add much in thickness, and for all the days that I am not diving and its just sitting on my desk, watching the rotor spin kind of takes the lace of my fidget spinner.

      • Stop! You had me at “fidget spinner” !

      • Shinytoys

bringing a watch to market must be no picnic…

        • Reuven Lakein

To the market is half the problem. Mostly work that you can control. Good design, putting together the manufacturing and making sure the samples look how they are supposed to. Once your in the market is where the real fun is.

          • Shinytoys

            I like it…

  • Phil leavell

I’m not into divers I don’t own one yet. I do like the screws in the bezel it’s got good Lume.. and Sinn had have been doing better they wouldn’t have been bought by the case maker . Nice offering

    • Reuven Lakein

Thank you! We hope you will try one.

  • Slymenstra Hymen

oh, also that warranty is pretty impressive if they stay around long enough to honor it

    • Reuven Lakein

There is only one way to find out.

      • Slymenstra Hymen

True, the contrast screws really do kind of ruin it for me though. But I won’t write you guys off entirely I will definitely look to future releases

  • Slymenstra Hymen

oh so I take it now things I say that aren’t entirely according to the ABTW “polite and courteous” doctrine will now just be deleted? Jesus fucking christ kids

  • ElectronicFur

    Can
someone explain to me the usefulness of an internal bezel with a screw
down crown? Am I correct that I can’t change the bezel then, if I’m in the
water after waiting for my buddies, or after swimming on the surface to
    the dive site?

    • Reuven Lakein

There is a double o ring inside the tube that keeps the water out when your adjusting it. You can adjust it in the water.

      • ElectronicFur

        That’s great, thanks.

        • Reuven Lakein

Make sure to show how it works to your buddies when your diving 🙂

  • spiceballs

Nicely thought-out design of a solid looking dive watch. Enjoyed your satirical ad write-up and glad to read that you’re downsizing your dial logo. I’m also a bit dive-watched out but will view your progress with interest. Let me know where you are in Brooklyn as I plan to be there in November, this year, and I may drop in.

    • Reuven Lakein

Thank you! We are in Crown Heights. We dont exactly have a showroom setup, but in theory we can do something.

      • spiceballs

Crown Heights would work well, thx.

  • Shinytoys

Certainly worth a look when the piece is finalized. I like the cosmetics and the engine, but you’re swimming in some heavily shark infested waters competition wise in that price range. Good luck with your venture…

    • Reuven Lakein

Thank you! We love a challenge.

  • Larry Holmack

Nice enough looking…but for a big guy like me, just too small. Also…I am not into dive watches. But, at the price point…I am sure there are plenty of guys out there…and gals…who are looking for a dive watch that fits into a more modest budget,
    Good luck in your venture!!!

  • Phil leavell

Truly nice to see the people trying to put this product out to Market stand behind it and try to answer all the questions. Hope you got some good feedback and makes me tweaks ,(respect ) best of luck
