Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi in steel for 2018.

At BaselWorld 2018 Rolex introduced the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi in Oystersteel and on the Jubilee bracelet, as well as two “Rootbeer” versions that we’ll look at in a separate article. The new Pepsi is big news because it brings the white gold-only Pepsi from 2014 down to the steel price point while separating it from its precious counterpart visually with the distinct look of the Jubilee 5-link bracelet replacing the 3-link Oyster bracelet of the white gold model.

Analysis

While those with the all-gold version won’t be pleased, many, many more will definitely take this chance to get the GMT-Master Pepsi for its refreshing, colorful, and timeless look. Colors are in, and so are GMT watches – as many other launches from recent years will tell you – so Rolex is not only riding the fat waves of the Pepsi, but of the latest trends as well. In our hands-on we’ll explain more about the bi-color Cerachrom bezel, so stay tuned for that.

The new Pepsi version also features a new-generation Rolex 3285 movement with extended, 70-hour power reserve, a Chronergy escapement, and a total of 10 patented technical solutions.

Summary

In truth, I was expecting a Coke version to be released in steel, not to upset those who invested in the white gold Pepsi – whether for technical or other reasons, we are yet to learn, but the Coke was not to be, at least not in 2018. The Pepsi in Oystersteel is a big deal for sure and if you’re contemplating getting one, we suggest you sign up immediately before the waiting lists get out of control. Price for the Rolex GMT-Master II Pepsi in Oystersteel and on the Jubilee bracelet is 8,800 CHF.
