Tudor seems fully committed to releasing updates to the Black Bay range. For good reason too, as it’s been a runaway success. The brand’s GMT models have been especially popular. It offers a traveler GMT function in a quality package at a reasonable price. For Watches and Wonders 2023, a new Black Bay GMT Opaline White version has been added that should prove to continue that popularity.

The original Black Bay GMT was released with a black dial in a blue and red “Pepsi” colorway in 2018. Tudor later followed it up with a slightly more exotic S&G (Steel and Gold) version. This new release is available only in steel, but replaces the black dial with a pearl-white color and silver hands and indices.

The Opaline white is available with the same polarizing faux riveted bracelet as other versions of the Black Bay, or for a small cost reduction, a black fabric strap with a red stripe running down the center. Although the straps are nice, Tudor’s bracelets are made to very tight tolerances and would be my recommendation for a slight cost increase.

Like with all Black Bay GMT models (including the Pro), the new version is powered by Tudor’s in-house Calibre MT5652. It offers 70 hours of power reserve, and COSC certification, which is aided by a full balance bridge, free-spring balance wheel, and silicon escapement. A movement that offers great specs for the money.

As a previous owner of a North Flag, I’d like to see Tudor be the “Brand to Dare,” as its campaign says, releasing models that break new ground. That being said, as another iteration of the Black Bay GMT the Oplaline does look great. The white dial works especially well with the red and blue 24-hour bezel, giving the watch even more of an aviation vibe. Prices are the same as the black dial GMT, which are  $3,975 USD with the fabric strap and $4,300 USD with the bracelet. Learn more at the Tudor website here.
