Three years in the making, the Yema CMM.10 Manufacture Calibre Morteau 10 makes its debut in the Yema Superman Bronze CMM.10 watch. A new movement, especially a truly modern and highly specified one like the CMM.10, is a cornerstone moment in the life of every serious watchmaker. Yema leaned on its longstanding and successful crowdfunding approach to finance the research and development of this remarkable project, and on November 10th, 2023, the Superman Bronze premiers with this fresh new heart beating inside.

First, about the movement. The CMM.10 Manufacture Calibre Morteau 10 aims high not just from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a technical one. Measuring a versatile 28mm in diameter, the CMM.10 impresses with a -3 / +5 second daily accuracy — besting the COSC chronometer testing by a second at both ends of the spectrum. It combines that level of accuracy with an extensive, weekend-lasting 70-hour power reserve that is all the more impressive given that it is matched to a power-hungry (but more modern and more shock-resistant) 4Hz operating frequency. In contrast, many others attain longer autonomy by dropping this down to 3Hz or lower.

That impressive reserve is replenished by a self-winding system and a large barrel that captures energy from both directions of movement from the large, openworked oscillating weight. Yema uses Incabloc double-cone shock resistance to keep the Glucydur balance wheel safe, while galvanized plates keep an extra-large barrel and its Nivaflex mainspring securely in place. A transversal balance bridge is used in combination with the aforementioned shock absorption system to further increase rigidity and durability. A sapphire crystal caseback is in place, even though the case offers not 10 or 20, but 30 bar pressure resistance (equivalent to a depth of 300 meters or 990 feet), rendering it a truly rugged, go-anywhere watch. The case is crafted from high-quality bronze with alternating brushed and polished finishing including a beautifully executed polished bevel that runs along the profile of the case.

The Yema Superman Bronze watch is available in 39mm and 41mm versions with two dial colors, either in gradient blue or lacquered black. Each version is limited to 1,948 pieces. The high-contrast, easy-to-read Superman Bronze dials now proudly display French mentions and the new “MANUFACTURE FRANÇAISE” signature at 6 o’clock to reflect YEMA’s new positioning fueled by the internalization of the manufacturing of components for the CMM.10 caliber. A new lollipop seconds hand with a point counterweight replaces the well-known shovel seconds hand for enhanced dial balance. The dial is covered by a double-domed sapphire crystal that measures a beefy 2.20mm thick for superior legibility, resistance, and a decidedly neo-vintage look.

Yema is highly transparent about the origins of its components, too. The movement design happened in France, supported by mechanical and micro-technical engineers from a renowned R&D French institute specialized in watchmaking micro-engineering in order to industrialize in-house the machining of various CMM.10 caliber components such as the mainplate and bridges by Yema. Therefore, movement components come from Switzerland and France, the case, dial, and hands are Swiss-made, and the final assembly happens in Yema’s workshops in Morteau, the cradle of French watchmaking that is conveniently close to the Swiss border.

These are the first Superman models to benefit from this highly localized form of manufacturing with high-quality components and enhanced finishes, and Yema backs this up with a competitive 5-year warranty for perfect peace of mind. The Yema Superman Bronze watch comes on a Tropic FKM Viton rubber strap that tightly follows the shape of the case and the lugs, with a chequered pattern driving the retro flair of the case and dial home.

The Yema Superman Bronze CMM.10 watch is available between November 10 and November 17, 2023, at a greatly reduced price of €999 (€1,199 including tax for EU residents), representing a 44% savings (33% for EU residents) from the €1,790 final retail price. The Yema Superman Bronze watch with the new CMM.10 caliber starts shipping in April-May, 2024. You can learn more at the brand’s website.
