Rado has a long history of materials innovation in their watches, most famously with super-hard ceramics that hold a mirror finish. Here for review is something entirely new to me, a plasma-infused ceramic watch that looks like stainless steel. Let’s take a look.

RGM 160 Watch Review
This is the RGM 160. It is on the mid to upper range of RGM watch which don’t use in-house made RGM movements. With a versatile and useful set of complications from the ETA Valjoux 7751 automatic movement, this is a very attractive mix…
Orient DJ02002W GMT Watch Review
This is the Orient DJ02003W, an automatic with GMT, date and power reserve complications. Classic and a bit conservative with silver dial and Roman numerals, Orient is as always, excellent value for the money. This represents a nicely made piece with one of their most modern, always in-house made movements to date. Orient’s signature complication [...]
EHF Mk Zero Watch Review
This is the EHF Mk Zero, here for review from the new Swiss company, EHF Horlogere…
Junghans Meister Handwind Watch
This is the Junghans “Meister Handaufzeug” or “Master Handwinding,” a retro and classic dress watch scheduled for release in July of 2012. Based on the ETA/Pesaux 7001 movement, it’s rather slim at 7.3mm thick and 37.7mm wide. The design inspiration is a Junghans models from the 1930s, revamped to celebrate the brands’ 150th anniversary. I think [...]
Exclusive: Helson Titanium Gauge Watch Review
This is a new model from Helson, the Titanium Gauge, and we have an exclusive first review . This one takes the cool look of their 3500m gauge, scales it down to a mere 1000m, and goes to a full titanium case for a more wearable design. Let’s take a look. Titanium case with helium escape [...]
UTS 4000M GMT Dive Watch
This is the latest watch from UTS Munchen. We’ve written before about UTS, it’s basically the obsessive engineering of Nicolaus Spinner. Do you really need a watch that resists pressure from over twelve thousand feet of water? No, you do not. Do you want one? You just might. Simply called the UTS 4,000M, there are [...]
Ochs und Junior Watches Interview With Beat Weinmann
On Jan 27th, I had the pleasure of talking to Beat Weinmann of ochs und junior, as a follow-up to my review of the selene tinta. Allow me to thank Mr. Weinmann for his time. PH: One of the things that came up in the comments on my review is the cost of ochs und [...]
Armida A2 Watch Review
This is the Armida A2, and I like it quite a lot. Let me explain why I think this is one watch that is worthy of your consideration. Armida is a Hong Kong-based brand, using Fullswing for manufacturing, as do other brands such as the Helsons reviewed here. This becomes very obvious once you see [...]
Helson Shark Diver 42 Watch Review
This is the Helson Shark Diver 42mm. A more purposeful and less whimsical design than the Blackbeard and chronograph reviewed here, the Shark Diver is a solid dive watch. Basic specifications: Available in black, blue or white dial, in white, orange or blue hands and markers. Two movements: ETA 2824 at $699, or Miyota 9015 [...]
Ochs Und Junior Selene Tinta Watch Review
At once elegant and mysteriously absent of text or logo, the Ochs and Junior selene tinta is a very different watch indeed…
Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk II Watch Review
How to begin with this one. I think a bit of history first. Girard-Perregaux is one of the oldest Swiss watchmakers, around since 1791…
Ochs und Junior Watches
One of my heroes in watchmaking is a man named Ludwig Oechslin. He’s the genius behind ultra-complicated watches such as the Ulysse Nardin Trilogy Set, the amazing UN Freak in addition to minimal classics such as the MIH watch. Recently, he the younger Beat Weinmann started a new company, Ochs and Junior (Och und Junior) [...]
Helson Blackbeard Chronograph Watch Review
If you like your watches whimsical and yet robust, the Helson Blackbeard chronograph might just make your day. As a followup to our white-dial Blackbeard review, Helson graciously agreed to loan us their sibling chronograph model for review. Based around the ETA/Valjoux 7750, perhaps the most popular automatic chronograph movement ever made, the watch has [...]
Christopher Ward C11 MSL MK1 Automatic Watch Review
I’ve been a fan of Christopher Ward for a long time. They were one of the first high-value brands I discovered, and a wonderful introduction to fine watches. It has been a pleasure to watch their style develop and evolve, which is to say that I had a lot of anticipation going when I opened [...]
Helson Blackbeard Watch Review
When I saw the announcement for this watch I knew I had to review it. A cool indie diver from Helson with an embossed Jolly Roger on the dial? Awesome. Done in the style of the vintage Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (the bezel especially), the Blackbeard is thoroughly modern in execution: ETA 2824 movement, water resistant [...]
