Watches & Wonders is a name you’ll only be hearing more of in the world of luxury timepieces. Organized by the Geneva-based Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, Watches & Wonders took place in person in Shanghai, China in 2020. The Watches & Wonders event series began as an offshoot of the famed SIHH luxury watch debut trade show event but has since replaced the “SIHH” name in Geneva, Switzerland, and in 2021 will resume having in-person watch launch events around the world for the benefit of its member brands, who represent some of the most desirable and exclusive names in luxury timekeeping.
A novel innovation for Watches & Wonders 2020 was the concurrent media and commercial launch of many new products. Until recently, watch lovers needed to wait months (if not years) for the latest luxury wristwatches to hit retailers after their formal launch to members of the press (such as on aBlogtoWatch). Many of the latest wristwatch styles and materials are now available for purchase via select dealers, and when it comes to shopping online, the most complete collection of watches is available at MR PORTER (for men), and its related website NET-A-PORTER (for women). Together, MR PORTER and NET-A-PORTER will launch a series of innovative and industry-leading e-commerce shopping tools designed to catapult the performance of luxury watch sales online. Their ambitious goal is to bridge the gap between the comfort afforded by remote purchasing and the service offered by real-person interactions.
MR PORTER’s curated selection of high-end men’s goods includes wristwatches as one of its most important product categories. MR PORTER is among the first authorized retailers to offer full-service e-commerce for many luxury watch brands, and also happens to carry a number of exclusive watches not available anywhere else. MR PORTER wants to remind aBlogtoWatch community members that timepieces from the 13 major Watches & Wonders participating brands are available for purchase right now from the convenience of your phone or computer.
Standout new Watches & Wonders 2020 watches include products from Cartier, Piaget, Baume & Mercier, Montblanc, HYT, Bovet, and Ulysse Nardin. Cartier delighted fans with the revival of the Pasha collection, which debuted a 41mm-wide steel model (with matching bracelet), as well as a black-themed version of the also newly redone Santos watch family. Piaget’s 42mm-wide Polo now comes with a new green dial that is accented with gold tones. Baume & Mercier returns to its Art Deco-styled rectangular Hampton models with a 31mm-wide Automatic moon phase option.
Montblanc offers a rose Champagne-toned dial version of its classic Heritage Monopusher Automatic Chronograph in steel, which is always a good value. HYT dazzles with a futuristic colorful skull on the Soonow Instant Rainbow watch, and Bovet goes for old-world elite artistry with the 19Thirty Fleurier 42mm in 18k rose gold. MR PORTER carries the majority of the new Watches & Wonders 2020 products, many of which have not been represented in the media thus far. The best place for timepiece and style aficionados to catch up with all the latest new products from Watches & Wonders is at MR PORTER.
