Here is a new American based watch maker that is worth a look. They have something special that makes them stand out a bit more than other new brands. LUM-TEC has a special type of luminant that they claim is at least three times brighter than Super Luminova, the luminant that is applied on most Swiss watches with illuminated hands and indexes. Instead, LUM-TEC has apparently been working on this new type of luminant that they have been applying to customized watches for a while. Now they’ve taken all their expertise to release a growing line of sharp look, good value watches.
These aren’t mechanical watches, but it is a good start for the company. Prices are all well under $400 ($315 for the M3 and $365 for the M4 model), and you get a lot for your money. chronograph movements, high grade 316L steel cases, sapphire crystals, and of course the LUM-TEC luminant. Two of their watches are finally shipping, with many more on the way soon. The are the M3, and its PVD coated sibling, the M4. Here is a list of specs straight from their site:
- 44mm width excluding crown.
- 316L Stainless steel case.
- Heavy duty quartz chronograph movement.
- 100 meters / 330 feet water resistance.
- MDV Lume- Swiss grade A C3 or Orange 6-layer dial and hands.
- Threaded crown and caseback.
- Highly polished, brushed, or PVD hard coating.
- Leather strap and 316L SS bracelet with matching finish.
- Sapphire crystal.
- Double side anti-reflective coatings.
- 316L stainless steel bracelet.
- Lifetime battery replacement.
- 1 year limited warranty.
- Limited numbered series.
I have to say that I am impressed. It would be a good idea to get my hands on one of these watches and check them out. I love how thick the MDV (Maximum Darkness Visibility) luminant is on the dial. Gives it a very good and strong look. The Ohio based watch maker is really pushing hard to be a player, and I think they have what it takes to succeed. While it is not a lot of skin off their back, they are willing to offer free lifetime battery replacements for all their watches. It is a good way for them to provide good service plus an ongoing relation with their customers. Good thinking LUM-TEC. Check them out for more information.
