Some watches just look good enough to eat, and with the release of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer “Chocolate” watch, we see a luxury tool watch designed for women with a top-notch METAS certified Master Chronometer movement. This latest iteration of the ever-improving Seamaster line is crafted from Sedna gold, and accented by rich, chocolate brown ceramic.
This is a really interesting piece to contextualise. At just 39.5mm across, it is pretty small for a watch of this aesthetic, but wider than the 37.5mm option previously released for the female market. That said, the soft colourway makes it appear smaller, and certainly appropriate for a woman’s wrist. This piece feminises the whole concept of tool watches. With a water resistance rating of 600M, there can be no mistaking the serious credentials of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer.
The bezel, due to its reduced diameter, appears much chunkier and solid – a styling decision that makes sense due to the visual softness of rose gold. It is a material that, despite its refinement, seems to enjoy being treated like iron. When liberally sculpted and allowed room to make its presence felt, rose gold really comes into its own. The Ceragold bezel insert is hard-wearing and luxurious at the same time, and an excellent material to complement the ceramic dial and surrounding gold case. The applied and polished markers on the dial are filled generously with high quality luminant, and the Arabic numerals at 12, 6, and 9 are modern and masculine enough to bring the brutality of the bezel onto the watch face. The result is a watch head of exceptional balance.
Aesthetics aside, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer is a big step forward in terms of high-level accuracy being rolled-out in luxury timepieces for women. This is one of Omega’s first feminine pieces to achieve METAS certification, which means it’s passed their in-house Master Chronometer testing process. The growing size of women’s watches is facilitating the implementation of quality calibres, but it still isn’t commonplace. The Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8801/8800 contains 35 jewels and operates at 25,200 vph (3.5Hz) and has a power reserve of 55 hours.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer comes on a brown leather strap. With a date window at three o’clock, the watch offers superb everyday functionality, and the potential for use in a sporty or sophisticated environment. This piece will have a price of 18,700 CHF. omegawatches.com
