Flight instruments have always served as inspiration for Bell & Ross watches. Visibility, whether day or night, is of course key in the cockpit, and it’s that nighttime readability that forms the design language of the LUM collection. Bell & Ross launched the LUM collection in 2017, emphasizing the power of luminescence. Previous LUM watches used generous amounts of Super-LumiNova on the indices, hands, and dials for exceptional legibility in low light. Now, the brand has leveled up its luminosity with the release of the new 500-piece limited edition Bell & Ross BR-X5 Green LUM watch, which features a glow-in-the-dark case crafted from LM3D.

LM3D is a photo-luminescent composite material with quartz fibers that diffuse a strong green luminescence, developed especially for Bell & Ross. To create the 41mm (12.80 mm thick) case of the BR-X5 Green LUM, Bell & Ross alternates between LM3D and grade 2 micro-blasted black DLC titanium components, where the former provides the luminescence and the latter toughness and lightness. The resulting effect is an entire case that shines bright green in the dark — a bold and artistic statement that maximizes luminosity.

The dial of the BR-X5 Green LUM carries on the striking illumination; the skeletonized hands, power reserve indicator, applied hour markers, and date window frame also light up thanks to swaths of Super-LumiNova coating. The hours, minutes, and seconds hands are placed at the center of the matte-black dial, while the date window sits at 3 o’clock and the power reserve indicator is located at 9 o’clock. Framing the dial is the matching black flange, home to a 60-minute scale.

Powering the watch is the Caliber BR-CAL.323 chronometer manufacture movement, guaranteed for 5 years. This COSC-certified self-winding caliber, which offers 70 hours of power reserve, was developed specifically for the launch of the BR-X5 collection in 2022. The BR-X5 Green LUM fits perfectly into the high-end line that prioritizes precision and impactful design, highlighting Bell & Ross’ pursuit to not only consistently evolve and innovate, but to also create timepieces that dare to be different.

The titanium screw-down crown — protected by titanium crown guards — plays an essential role in maintaining the 100m water resistance of the BR-X5 Green LUM case. The dial is shielded by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating while the titanium caseback includes a smoked grey sapphire crystal for a view of the movement. The watch is paired with an open-worked black rubber strap, furnished with a DLC-finished steel folding buckle.

Expertly engineered by Bell & Ross, the BR-X5 Green LUM watch is both technically impressive and a one-of-a-kind conceptual art object. Priced at $13,300 USD, this 500-piece limited series is available to purchase at select Bell & Ross retailers or online. For more information, please visit the brand’s website.
